Half smoke, half incense — that's how a local note sums up Quanzhou, the port city UNESCO listed in 2021 as the emporium of the medieval world. Our latest Xiaohongshu sweep caught it mid-moment: notes calling it a once-in-a-lifetime city sit next to lane-by-lane café crawls through the old town. We pulled out every place the notes actually named, merged the duplicates, and verified the details. Almost everything on the list is free — this is still a city you walk, not a city you queue for.

Text and photos in the original notes belong to their authors — everything here is rewritten in our own words, addresses and prices are independently verified, and when a fact can't be confirmed we say so instead of inventing it. How do I get to Quanzhou?
High-speed rail: about 20 minutes from Xiamen, 4.5–6 hours from Shanghai to Quanzhou Station. There's no metro — the old town is compact enough to walk, with ¥2 electric carts on West Street and ride-hailing for everything beyond it.
Do Quanzhou's temples charge admission?
No — Kaiyuan Temple and Chengtian Temple are both free with no reservation needed (bring your passport during festival periods). The only paid entry on our list is the scenic area at Chongwu Ancient Town, and even that is free before 7:00 and after 19:00.
