Shanghai's Brand Exhibitions & Luxury Houses: The Visitor's Map
Shanghai has quietly become the world's stage for luxury-brand culture: not stores, but houses — restored mansions, ship-shaped landmarks, museum takeovers. Most are free. Many are spectacular. And almost every guide written about them for foreigners is wrong about one thing: whether you can actually get in.
Some are pure walk-ins that only look appointment-only. Some have hidden English booking routes. Some genuinely are locked behind Chinese mini-programs — those, Kora books for you. Here's the honest map, checked July 2026.

Three routes worth building a day around
- The Wukang Road triangle — Maison Longchamp → Lemaire → To Summer, all within a 10-minute radius in the former French Concession, all free. Shanghai's best brand-house walk.
- Jing'an icons — the LV ship + Prada Rong Zhai are a 10-minute walk apart around Nanjing West Road. Book both ahead; do the ship in the afternoon, Rong Zhai's dusk session with a cocktail to finish.
- Huangpu heritage — Maison Hermès → Xintiandi lanes → Le Labo, one flat easy afternoon with the city's best dining at the end of it.
The honest part: why booking in China defeats visitors
China's reservation culture runs on mini-programs inside Chinese super-apps — they expect a Chinese phone number, Chinese ID formats, and Chinese menus. As a visitor you'll hit three tiers: places with English routes (fine), places where staff will help you at the door (usually fine), and places where the booking wall is absolute unless someone books from the Chinese side. That last tier is why Kora's concierge exists: tell Kora where you want to go and when, and the Chinese-app side gets handled — you just show up with your passport.
One more thing worth knowing: ask before you trek. Hours, quotas and pop-ups on this page were verified in July 2026, and Shanghai moves fast. A 30-second "is Lemaire walk-in today?" to Kora beats an hour's round trip.
