Luhu CPI (麓湖CPI): Galleries and Coffee in a Lakeside Garden

Mentioned in 1 local noteWalk-in · free grounds · ~10:00–22:00

The parks note lists the Luhu lake district among Chengdu's free pleasures, and since spring 2024 its magnet is CPI — a low-rise cluster of exposed-concrete pavilions threaded through three hectares of deliberately overgrown garden on the lake's edge, in the far south of the city.

The tenant list is the draw: galleries and exhibition rooms, designer and vintage buyer shops, international furniture showrooms, and cafés whose terraces face the water. The comparison locals reach for is Tokyo's Daikanyama — a shopping district that behaves like a park. Wandering the grounds costs nothing; individual shows occasionally ticket.

Why locals rate it

Because it's where the city's design crowd actually spends weekends now — the note files it beside parks, not malls, and that's how it behaves: paths instead of corridors, planting that half-hides the architecture, and a lake at the end of every sightline. Come for one exhibition and you drift for three hours.

Only Kora will tell you
  • Weekend afternoons queue at the popular cafés — go before noon, or treat Tuesday as the local's slot.
  • It anchors a whole lake day — the Luhu waterfront paths continue beyond the shops; the island and food streets nearby fill the evening.
  • Pop-ups rotate constantly — the tenant mix changes by season; if you're hunting a specific brand or show, ask Kora to confirm it's still on before the trek south.
