Xunfu Canteen (旬福食堂): The Fumin Road Curry With a Queue
Mentioned in 2 local notesWalk-in — queue at peak
Two different locals wrote up the Julu–Fumin–Changle walk months apart, and both stopped at the same small doorway: a Japanese home-style canteen on Fumin Road. One notes flatly that the room is always full and the queue is long; the other flags its brunch as the hidden surprise of the street. When independent field notes agree on a restaurant this small, we listen.
The signature is Hokkaido-style soup curry — a lighter, brothier cousin of the katsu-curry you know, built around a braised chicken leg — alongside rice bowls in the same homely register.

Why locals rate it
Fumin Road is dense with places styled to be photographed; this one is styled to be eaten in, which on this street counts as rebellion. The notes read like a before-and-after: one author maps the whole road — vintage, ceramics, dessert — and marks this as the meal; the other, writing a broader six-district guide, singles out the same doorway for brunch. Between them the message is simple: come hungry, come early.
- Beat the queue by eating at local off-peak. Shanghai lunches at 12:00 sharp and dines at 18:30 — arriving 11:15 or 17:30 routinely halves the wait at rooms this size.
- The waitlist, if there is one, will be in Chinese. Photograph any ticket machine or QR queue sheet and send it to Kora — we'll tell you what to tap and how long the line really is.
- Menu in Chinese? Same move: photo to Kora, English back in seconds — and we'll tell you which one is the soup curry.
- Rained out or the queue's absurd? Message Kora — the surrounding blocks hide enough good rooms that a plan B is never more than 200 metres away.
Around it
You're one street from the Wuzhong Market morning show, and the walk west along Changle or Anfu Road ends naturally at the Wukang Mansion. The full ranked list is on the Shanghai local map.
